Decorating My Family Room With Ashley Home Store

Recently I teamed up with the Ashley Furniture Home Store in Champaign to give my family room a little refresh! Some of the furniture we wanted to replace was cute, however they were cheap finds that we got when we first moved into our home and didn’t have as much to spend! These pieces were starting to show their quality and so it was time for an upgrade!

So lets start with the before! I had to search back to 2017 to find this picture but you'll see the coffee table and end tables I started with. The coffee table I really liked, and still do, but it was a $90 TJ Maxx find I couldn’t pass up at the time because I just wanted anything at that point so I settled for this one. But the rectangular shape really wasn’t ideal for our couch and was slightly too big. The fabric also was very light which was fine up until we had kids… The nesting end tables were another cheap TJ find that I settled on until I could get something of better quality. And the other random end table was a hand me down that we later donated. So overall not terrible, but the space didn’t live up to its full potential!

The first thing I actually picked out was the Rastella coffee table. I really loved the hand carved detailing and the color was just what I was looking for. The black metal legs tied in nicely with my decor and kitchen as well so I knew this piece had to come home with me! Our previous coffee table was upholstered and while I thought it was pretty, having a fabric coffee table wasn’t the best option with a 3.5 year old and a 9mo lol. It had seen better days! Oh and did I mention that our 80lb dog Harley used to think it was a dog bed? I’d catch him napping on it frequently which is another reason I am glad to now have a wooden one! And with the soft edges of the new table, I don't have to worry about any sharp corners once my daughter learns to walk. Win-win!

For the end tables I didn't want something that would be too “matchy-matchy” and rather something that would compliment the coffee table nicely. These Johnelle end tables were the perfect pick! I especially love how sturdy they are. That was important to me since we have an energetic preschooler and a little one who will be learning to walk soon! Our old end tables were very lightweight and a slight bump into them would have the lamp wobbling! These new tables are not only more attractive but safer for our family.

In the picture below you can get a better feel for the true colors of the end tables and coffee table. You’ll see that they don’t match exactly, but the gray undertones of the end table tie nicely with the gray in the coffee table which makes these work without being too matchy.

Even our stray cat turned family pet Duke is impressed with the family room refresh!
